Amber Slumber

(Drink Less, Write More, Sleep Enough)

pale dawn gulps darkness
emptying night of blackness
like drained beer bottles
(perfectly still)
on my table.

my laptop and printer lay inert
(perfectly still)
as the empty amber bottles –
the screensaver, still aglow
meets the dawn’s amber glow.

outside,
a rooster crows unheard,
and herd of crows roost there
as I lay
(perfectly still)
in the darkness

of amber slumber.
