The Summer Trees

(Lancaster, England, July 1987)

the summer trees by the roadsides grow
their branches swaying as the winds blow
creeping rays of sunshine thru their crowns
extolling pastel colors like clowns.

trees reach up the sky, their roots run deep
ever growing even as we sleep
reminding us to look up, to hope
as we keep our feet on ground, and cope.

- between
hoping and coping
is striving.

- between
feet-on-ground and head-up-high
is living.
